Why & How Magnolia Lane Pediatrics Began

Dr. Jill Eddings and Dr. Suyearn Yu both attended Baylor College of Medicine and met during our residency program in 2007. Specifically, we met on our Ben Taub rotation, staying up all night and caring for patients sometimes 30 hours straight together. If this doesn’t bond a friendship, we don’t know what does! We have remained close friends ever since. We worked together for over 16 years, until we finally decided to pursue our dream of starting a practice together on our own.

The Origin of Our Name, Magnolia Lane Pediatrics

Our vision for this practice was a small-town feel, where your doctors and staff know you and your family by name. After all, raising kids truly takes a village! Together we pictured a small village with our waiting room being the ‘town square’ and each exam room being a part of the town: dance class, football stadium, movie theater, or a visit to the zoo or aquarium. As we created the company, we were also watching the show, Sweet Magnolias. We loved the idea of how loving mothers and strong business women met up regularly to fellowship, support each other, and just “do life” together. Dr. Eddings grew up in Louisiana and was used to being surrounded by magnolia trees, having one in the yard of every family home. Once we learned more about magnolias, we were thrilled to learn that the magnolia was not only one of the toughest and most ancient flowers, but also the official flower of Louisiana and Korea! What an incredible way to unite our two backgrounds and friendships, as well as represent the beginning of our journey together by naming our practice, Magnolia Lane Pediatrics!
